05.16.2023 Kingsway home gets planning permission

May 16, 2023

Our Kingsway project is all about creating a seriously practical and sociable home for a young family on the edges of South East London. The plans have just been given planning permission, which is fantastic news – the changes to this semi-detached property are going to make a huge difference to the day to day life of this lovely couple and their two young children.

The designs include converting parts of the existing garage to add a much-needed utility boot room for those young muddy boots – it’s the kind of space you don’t know you need until you know! – and to open up the existing entrance porch and hallway to create an inviting welcome into the home.

The hustle and bustle of the house will be the new extended kitchen and dining area which seamlessly continues out onto the garden. An eaves roof light will draw in natural light from above into the kitchen area, at the same time directing your view towards the garden.  There are also large sliding doors and a brise soleil to provide shading from direct sunlight.

We’ll also be replacing the uninsulated and tired-looking dormer with a new slick, modern zinc dormer with floor to ceiling sliding windows, cladding between the windows in horizontal timber to soften the zinc. We’ve enlarged the existing dormer to create more usable space in the converted loft.

Our brief was to create a home that would meet the needs of life with small children, while also creating spaces they can grow into as the children get older. The family and the PCH team feel that together we have done just that. Watch this space as the project gets underway.
