Cantilever Court, formerly the South Bank University building, is now a mixed use development of retail, office and residential units close to the Nine Elms regeneration area in Vauxhall, London.
The design included a headquarters office for the Humankind charity, which provides support services for drug and alcohol users, families and carers. A mixture of open plan and cellular offices were required for administration and staff with large conference and training facilities incorporating top of the range AV equipment and air conditioning. A large moveable soundproofed wall was designed to open up and allow the room to accommodate up to 60 people.
A kitchen and dining area lies at the heart of the building and is used by staff and clients for informal lunches, meetings and relaxation. The space has doors leading to the courtyard to allow the eating and drinking to spill outside. All rooms are arranged along a corridor with bold coloured doors identifying different their uses.
